Error: UNKNOWN_FAILURE_REASON: , after starting bot

Bug info:

  • Bot URL → Gainium app

  • [Optional] Steps to reproduce →
I’m using @hunterwhalehunter’s strategy of long and short DCA bots, as well as long and short compounding bots, four bots per pair. I’ve set up several pairs on paper trading with Coinbase successfully over the past 4 hours. I cannot do it successfully with a real account with Coinbase reliably. The long DCA bot will start and after a minute or so give an error: UNKNOWN_FAILURE_REASON. Restarting a dozen times or so will usually work eventually, but I just had another bot stop again with the same error that had been running for an hour after getting it to start. It’s only the long DCA bot, the other three bots per pair work fine. And it’s almost every pair I’ve tried. Works fine on paper trading, it’s only the real account and only the long bots that are having these failures. Perhaps an API issue with Coinbase?

We’ve received your bug report regarding the ‘UNKNOWN_FAILURE_REASON’ error you’re experiencing with the long DCA bot on your real Coinbase account. Thank you for including the bot URL. We will investigate this issue and provide an update as soon as possible. Your detailed description and steps to reproduce are very helpful!

Still getting these on occasion hours later. I might have to stop all bots until it’s resolved as it is happening any time out of the blue and could be while I’m sleeping, driving, working, etc. and can’t take half an hour to restart, restart, restart, restart, until it works, only to have them stop again hours later unexpectedly. Paper trading is fine though. Also, it’s only the long DCA bots, the short and compounding bots are all fine.

There may have been an issue on Coinbase’s end, but we’ve added a workaround on our side. Please let us know if the problem continues!

Good morning! I’ve been getting errors all night long via Telegram alerts, more than one an hour, although only one bot has actually stopped and gone red for the status indicator. I still can’t restart that one bot, I’ve tried 5 times and get the same unknown failure message each time I try restarting it: Gainium app

You are getting this error on orders at 0.0172 and 0.0367 which is 5-10x time lower than current. I assume there might be some restriction from exchange side.
Its unclear why the coinbase sent unknown error but not price error, for example. For the price range error we have a specific flow, and it wont bother you as unknown error did. But it cannot be applied.

Anyway most errors are placed, especially the closest to the start price. With every next filled order bot will try to place those lower ones and at some price point it should be possible.

Thanks for the reply and explanation. I bet switching to smart orders will resolve it. I’ll edit the bots and give that a try.

Yes, should work with smart orders without errors.
