MEGA DCA settings Backtest

A couple of years back I made a detailed analysis post about DCA bot settings on Trade Alts discord which was very much liked by the DCA community.
I think the essence of it holds good even today as different market conditions were backtested

I will copy and paste it below

A couple of weeks ago (mid 2022) one of our awesome member Snurg backtested 88 different settings for 126 coins on different time ranges.I wanted to make sense of so many configs for myself/all and made a few charts from his data.
This will be a long analysis post but i believe there is something in it for everyone.
Snurg was kind enough to share data for time ranges
Bullish(July-Oct21) 4 months
Year2021 12 months
Year2022 3 months
Bearish(Nov-Feb22) 4 months

I wanted an all season set and forget bot which does low redbags and also decent ROI which felt mutually exclusive. I split the bots based on cost 0-500$,500$-1k,1k-1.5k,1.5k-2k,2k+ to compare.Also this helps everyone as not all have the same bankroll. For me preventing red bags is the most important criteria and ROI/cost come second. The reasoning is high red bags makes it a guessing game of picking the right pairs.Although ROI might be high on that setting one wrong pair and your profits are gone. Based on those criteria I have selected my top picks bot settings in each bot cost range.Again this is purely based on my understanding/discretion/circumstance. Recommend looking at the charts before reading my picks.
Bars are redbags and lines are ROI color coded to different date ranges.

My Picks:-

BotCost = 0-500$
1st - Trade Alts TA Safer 10 BO 10 SO 2.4 SOS 1.05 OS 1 SS 25 MSTC
Low on ROI but seems to avoid red bags in all market conditions for the price
2nd - Ryzen Catalyst 10 BO 10 SO 5 SOS 1.12 OS 1 SS 11 MSTC
Although cheapest in the category and seems to do well with low bags I am not a fan of SOS = 5.

The very popular Banshee settings are doing too many bags imo but see disclaimer for TP issues

BotCost = 500$-1K
1st- Trade Alts TA Riskier 2 10 BO 15 SO 2.4 SOS 1.05 OS 1 SS 25 MSTC
Another TA gem here with slightly higher SOS
2nd - ZachTech BitMan 10 BO 10 SO 3.33 SOS 1.33 OS 1.11 SS 10 MSTC
Low on bags but the SOS 3.33 is high for > 500$ bot

BotCost = 1k-1.5k
Recommended price range if you can afford it
1st - Sellium Neiomoidian 1107$ 10 BO 10 SO 1.24 SOS 1.25 OS 1.13 SS 15 MSTC The best bot setting considering all parameters based on my understanding.Low bags decent ROI Low SOS. Great job by Sellium on this config and all he does for the community.
2nd - Trade Alts TA Standard 10 BO 20 SO 2 SOS 1.05 OS 1 SS 30 MSTC
Needs no explanation. This bot has been tested live in all markets now.If you have no time and want a config then TA Standard should be your bot.Even seems to hold up well for low redbags
TA Standard v2 although safer seems to do very low ROI hence its not in my picks.

3rd - Bluecookie scartec settings 10 BO 10 SO 2.0 SOS 1.05 OS 0.96 SS 40 MSTC too
I like this for its low RC even though it covers only 40% deviation

BotCost = 1.5k-2k
Only Pick - itzwolf The Wolf Bot 10 BO 10 SO 1.5 SOS 1.1 OS 1 SS 30 MSTC
Half RC pretty much all along deviation and low on redbags.Strong pick

BotCost = 2k+
For the big bankrolls Only Pick - MegaAramisoff Nutcracker-2 10 BO 20 SO 1.6 SOS 1.53 OS 1.2 SS 10 MSTC
Although little higher on redbags its relative ROI blows away other bots in the price range. (edited)

Its a lengthy post but hopefully people find this useful.

Disclaimer:-
As TP isnt same for all bot settings a bot with TP 1.0 might beat a bot with TP 3.0 on redbags. So DYOR before diving into any conclusions.
Also a bot covering 60% dev might lose out to a 45% deviation on ROI even though funds never got used.Hard to quantify that stuff.

Congratulations to and thanks a lot for this article as well!

The performance of TradeAlts settings in respect to the low red bags in the first two cases is very interesting. Why is it missing in the third and why so bad in the fourth?

Great stuff. And yeah I was there too and on other groups getting back testing done to test a bunch strategies. Ended up a group effort. I think I remember you there. I’m in process of reevaluating the same strategies by comparing those old tests against Gainium backtests with same settings, pairs and dates.

Awesome thanks for sharing that. It would have been interesting to measure not only the number of bags but also what’s the unrealized pnl at the end of the backtest.

Are you running any of those strategies live or paper?

A variant of Trade alts where bot cost is higher than 1.5k doesn’t exist. Or wasn’t famous enough

I do a bit more advanced strategies mainly coz I can code

And next time you tell us a little about those? :upside_down_face:

Haha. Well a fair few of the strategy variants I try failed.
The ones which work will be on public copy trading profiles coz even though crypto trading is just a hobby we all love money for our time and experience

It really depends on everyone goal - seen too many traders become sellers because didn’t find a way to make it profitable for themselves but this doesn’t mean isn’t possible
